Weather and Safety Policy

Weather on New Year’s Eve can be unpredictable. In the event of extreme weather conditions, the race
organizers, as advised by the Fairfax County Police and Fire/EMS Departments, reserve
the right to cancel the race or run it as an untimed "Fun Run" without advance notice. This includes conditions such as ice and harsh winter weather. If this should be necessary:

Participants will receive premiums (in accordance with registration policies).

Prizes will be converted to random prizes

No entry-fee refunds will be made.
The final decision regarding the conduct of the race will be made between
6:00pm and 6:30pm the evening of the race and will be announced over the race public
address system.

Timing
This event will utilize IPICO timing tags. You must use the tag assigned to you and have attached to your shoe. No chip = no time. Our timing tags are recyclable; you may keep, return at finish, or return to any Pacers for $5.00 off a $50 purchase (see back of timing tag for details).

Directions & Parking

The race starts and finishes at Pacers Fairfax located at 10427 North Street in Old Town, Fairfax. Pacers Fairfax is located in the Old Town Plaza Village complex located near the intersection of Chain Bridge Road and North Street.
Race Day Directions and Road Closures:
North Street between Chain Bridge and Old Lee Highway and University Drive between Main Street and just prior to the entrance to the Old Town Village parking garage will be closed to traffic starting at 6:00pm.
We strongly suggest parking in the Old Town Village parking garage which is just steps from the start/finish line. You can access the lot from Chain Bridge Road or University Drive and entrances to both sides of the garage will be open. Parking behind the store and in the Town Hall lot will not be available. University Drive will open south of North Street after the race.
Registration and packet pick up is located at Pacers Fairfax.
Transportation
Pacers Fairfax is located approximately 2 miles from the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metro Station. Please see wmata.com for rail and bus schedules.
Registration & Packet Pick Up
Packet pick up will be held on Thursday, December 30 from 4pm-8pm and on race day, Friday, December 31 from 10am-6:00pm at Pacers Fairfax (10427 North Street). Please note that at 3pm the packet pick up will move directly across the street to a large empty indoor storefront.

2009 Runner Premium

The first 1700 registrants will receive finisher sweatshirts, courtesy of Adidas. You will pick up your sweatshirt at packet pick up. You must pick up your packet prior to race start to receive your sweatshirt. We regret we cannot hold sweatshirts for individuals who do not pick up their packet prior to the race, nor can we mail sweatshirts out before or after the event.
Post Race Party

Join us for our post race party with great fare and entertainment. Friends and family are welcome to join us at the post-race event. The award ceremony will commence at approximately 8:00pm. Make plans to stay in Old Town Fairfax after the race!
Consultations & Injury Screenings

Dr. Kathy of Positively Chiropractic (http://www.posichiro.com/) will be on hand on race day for injury screenings, mini-massages, and consultations.

Beneficiary

This year's beneficiary is the Fairfax Youth Police Club (FYPC). The Fairfax Police Youth Club (FPYC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of leadership, sportsmanship, and physical fitness, while encouraging and providing opportunities for youth to participate in a variety of sports. For more information on FPYC, please visit www.fpycsports.com. Last year, the Fairfax Four raised over $4,000 for the Fairfax Police Youth Club!
Frequently Asked Questions

May I pick up a packet for friends or family?
Yes, you may pick up a packet for someone else. Please just alert them that you will be picking up their packet.
May I register during packet pick up?
Yes, you can. We accept check, cash, and credit card.
May I wear headphones during the run?
This run is during evening hours and requires runners to be more alert to their surroundings than most events. Therefore, we will not allow individuals to wear headphones during the event.
May I run with a stroller?
Runners with strollers are responsible for maintaining control of their stroller and must be considerate of others around them. Please start in the back. The official policy of USATF is "no", however, we will not be enforcing the policy.
May I run with my dog?
Pets are not allowed in the Fairfax Four miler, but gentle ones are welcome to watch.
Will there be a water stop?
Yes.
What is your refund policy?
Unfortunately, there are no refunds for this event. We also do not accept transfers or deferments for this event.
Is there a baggage drop?
Yes, a baggage drop will be open 5:30pm to 8:30pm and will be manned by volunteers. The event is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please pick up your items by 8:30pm. Any items left after 8:30pm will be transferred to Pacers of Fairfax and will be available for pick up Saturday, January 2. Any items not claimed two weeks after the event will be donated to charity or discarded.
Is there a team competition?
There is no team competition this year.
Is there a time cutoff for the event?
You must be able to finish the Fairfax Four Miler course in 80 minutes or less.
